Year 5 maths: what your child learns

In Year 5 children work with numbers up to 1,000,000 and learn long multiplication, short division, factors, primes, squares and cubes. Fractions extend to mixed numbers, decimals reach three places, and percentages are introduced, while measures bring area, volume and metric and imperial units. Angles are measured in degrees with a protractor, shapes are reflected and translated, and line graphs and timetables are read.
