Terms of service
These terms are the agreement between you and Renacer Enterprises Ltd (“we”, “us”), a company registered in England and Wales with company number [company number] and registered office at [registered office address], for using KeyStage at keystageapp.co.uk. Please read them with our privacy notice, safeguarding policy and how we use AI. You can contact us at hello@keystageapp.co.uk.
1. Who can have an account
- You must be 18 or over and a parent or guardian, or otherwise have parental responsibility, for every child you add.
- An account is for one household and for your own children's learning. It is not for schools, tutoring businesses or other commercial use (contact us if you'd like that).
- Children use KeyStage through your account and under your responsibility. You decide whether they use it, and for how long, and you should check in on their use, particularly with younger children.
- You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details and your grown-ups' PIN secret, and for what happens on your account.
- The lessons follow the National Curriculum in England. You can use KeyStage elsewhere, but it is designed for children in England aged about 5 to 16 (Year 1 to Year 11).
2. What KeyStage is, and isn't
KeyStage gives children one-to-one lessons, revision, flashcards and tests with an AI teacher: a computer program, not a person. It is a learning aid to use alongside school.
- It is not a substitute for school, a qualified teacher, or professional advice of any kind (including medical, psychological, special educational needs, legal or careers advice).
- AI can make mistakes. The teacher can occasionally get facts, marking or explanations wrong. We work to keep this rare, but please don't rely on it as the only source for anything important, such as exam preparation.
- It is not an emergency or monitoring service. Nobody watches lessons live. If the teacher is worried by something a child says, it tells you (see our safeguarding policy), but this is not a substitute for your own care. If a child is in danger, call 999.
3. Free trial
New accounts can try KeyStage with three free lessons. You won't be charged unless you choose a plan, and we will always show you the price before you pay.
4. Plans and prices
- Standard: £17.99 per child per month. For one child, with one lesson a day.
- Family: £29.99 per month for two children, plus £7.99 per month for each extra child. For two children, each with one lesson a day. Add more children at £7.99 each per month.
- Unlimited: £99.99 per month for one household, up to five children. For up to five children in one household. Lessons are not limited to one a day, subject to fair use (up to 15 lessons a day across the household).
- All prices are in pounds sterling and include VAT.
- You can pay monthly, or yearly at the price of ten months. Payment is taken in advance at the start of each billing period.
- “A lesson a day” means one new lesson per child per calendar day (UK time). Days don't carry over.
- Fair use on Unlimited: Unlimited is for the ordinary use of one household. Up to 15 lessons a day across the household is always fine. If use is regularly far beyond that, or looks automated or shared outside the household, we may contact you and may limit lessons.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never reach our servers.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. If a payment fails, we will let you know, and we may pause lessons until it is sorted out.
- If we change our prices, we will tell you at least 30 days before the change applies to you. It applies from your next renewal after that, and you can cancel before then.
5. Cancelling
Cancel any time
You can cancel your subscription at any time from the billing page in the grown-ups' area. It stays active until the end of the period you have paid for and then stops; it won't renew. Except as set out below or required by law, we don't give refunds for part-used periods.
Your 14-day right to cancel
If you are a consumer, you have the legal right to cancel within 14 days of starting a paid subscription, without giving a reason. Because KeyStage is a digital service that starts as soon as you subscribe, by subscribing you ask us to start the service straight away, within the cancellation period, and you acknowledge that if you cancel within those 14 days we will refund what you paid less a proportionate amount for the service provided up to the time you told us you were cancelling.
To use this right, cancel from the billing page and email hello@keystageapp.co.uk (or write to us at [postal address]) saying you are cancelling within 14 days. We will refund you within 14 days, to the card you paid with.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from Grown-ups → Account. This cancels any subscription straight away and permanently deletes your children's learning data, as described in our privacy notice.
6. Using KeyStage properly
You agree, and agree to make sure your children understand as far as they can, that you will not:
- try to make the AI teacher produce harmful, sexual, violent, hateful or otherwise inappropriate content, or get round its safety rules;
- enter other people's personal information, or your child's full name, address, school or contact details;
- share your account outside your household, resell access, or use it to run a tutoring or other business;
- copy, scrape or download content in bulk, use bots, or try to reverse engineer, overload or break into the service;
- use KeyStage in any way that is unlawful or that harms a child.
If you do, we may suspend or close the account (see section 9).
7. Content
- KeyStage, including its design, software, teacher characters and lesson materials, belongs to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use it for your household's learning while your account is open.
- The curriculum structure is based on the National Curriculum in England, published by the Department for Education under the Open Government Licence. KeyStage is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department for Education.
- Photos come from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons under their own licences, and are credited and linked where shown. Videos are embedded from YouTube and remain their owners' content.
- What your children write and say remains theirs. You let us use it to provide the service, as described in our privacy notice. We do not use it to train AI models.
8. Keeping the service running
We work to keep KeyStage available and working well, but we can't promise it will always be uninterrupted or free of errors, as it relies on internet connections and on service providers outside our control. We may improve or change features. If we make a change that significantly reduces what you are paying for, we will tell you and you may cancel and receive a refund for any period you have paid for but not received.
9. If we need to suspend or close an account
We may suspend or close an account if there is a serious or repeated breach of these terms, if we need to protect a child, or if the law requires it. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you first and give you a chance to put things right. If we close your account and it isn't because of a breach by you, we will refund any period you have paid for but not received.
10. Our responsibility to you
- We provide the service with reasonable care and skill, and as described. If we don't, please tell us and we will try to put it right; you may also be entitled to a price reduction or refund. Your legal rights as a consumer, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, are not affected by these terms.
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law.
- We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable.
- KeyStage is for domestic and private use. We are not responsible for business losses, such as loss of profit or business opportunity.
- If digital content we provide damages a device or other digital content belonging to you, and this is caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill, we will either repair the damage or pay you compensation.
- Otherwise, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law or to the service. If a change matters, we will tell you in advance and ask you to agree to the new version the next time you open KeyStage. If you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account.
12. Complaints and the law
If you have a complaint, email hello@keystageapp.co.uk and we will do our best to sort it out quickly.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear any dispute. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts and the mandatory consumer protections of where you live still apply.
13. Other things
- We may transfer this agreement to another organisation that takes over KeyStage; we will tell you, and your rights won't be reduced. You may not transfer your account to someone else.
- If a court finds part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- Only you and we have rights under this agreement; no one else can enforce it.
- If we delay enforcing these terms, we can still enforce them later.
