Accessibility statement

We want every child to be able to learn with KeyStage, including children with disabilities, sensory impairments and specific learning difficulties, and the grown-ups who support them.

Our aim

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We have not yet had an independent accessibility audit, so we can't yet claim full conformance; this statement describes where we are.

What we have built in

  • Talk or type. Children can answer by speaking or typing, and multiple-choice questions can be tapped.
  • Listen or read. The teacher speaks every explanation aloud. Words can be shown on screen (for Years 1 and 2 they are behind a “Show words” button, so younger children aren't overwhelmed), and the whiteboard shows the key text and maths.
  • Hands-free option. The microphone can switch on by itself after the teacher speaks, for children who find tapping hard; parents can turn this off.
  • Calm visuals. Animations are reduced when your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Readable text. We use Lexend, a typeface designed for reading ease, large text and big tap targets, and the layout works on phones, tablets and computers and when zoomed.
  • Status updates such as “listening” or “correct” are announced to screen readers.
  • Paced to the child. The learning profile adapts pace, chunk size and reading level, and there are no countdown timers in lessons or tests.

Known gaps

We know about these problems and are working on them:

  • Speech recognition can struggle with some speech differences and accents. Typing is always available instead.
  • Pictures the AI draws have a short caption as their text alternative, which may not describe everything in the picture.
  • Some maths on the whiteboard may not be read clearly by every screen reader.
  • Embedded YouTube videos rely on the captions provided by the video's owner, which can be automatic or missing.
  • We have not yet fully tested lessons end to end with screen readers, switch access or voice control software.
  • Some decorative colours and badges may not meet contrast guidelines everywhere.

Tell us about a problem

If something doesn't work for you or your child, or you need information in a different format, please email hello@keystageapp.co.uk with “Accessibility” in the subject, or write to Renacer Enterprises Ltd, [postal address]. Tell us what you were trying to do and what device and assistive technology you use. We aim to reply within five working days, and we will tell you what we'll do about it.

How we prepared this statement

This statement was prepared on 19 October 2026 from our own testing during development. We will review it at least once a year and after significant changes, and update it once we have had an independent audit.
