History topics explained for parents
From Year 1 to Year 9, history grows from living memory to the Romans, Anglo-Saxons, the medieval period, empire and the twentieth century. Schools choose much of the detail, but the outline is fixed: British history in order, ancient Greece, an early civilisation and a non-European society, and the Holocaust at Key Stage 3. Alongside the facts, children learn to weigh sources and ask who made them and why.
