Key Stage 1 · ages 5 to 7
Key Stage 1 science: what your child learns
In Years 1 and 2 science starts with looking closely and asking questions about plants, animals, materials and the weather. Children name common plants and animals, sort materials by their properties, watch seeds and bulbs grow, and learn about habitats, simple food chains and what humans need to stay healthy. They also carry out simple tests and record what they find.
